Various Types of Veneers

veneersVeneers are like custom made shells that are bonded to your teeth in order to protect them as well as conceal them from any imperfections. Veneers are an ideal and sought-after method for improving the appearance of your front teeth as well as their shape and coloring. In many cases, they can be a fine alternative to crowns. Veneers are also a viable option to those who prefer to forego invasive surgeries. It’s actually one of the simplest and safest procedures in practice right now.

CITIDental Brookline is here to address any questions or reservations you might have about veneers by going over some of the various types of veneers offered on the market today.

Composite Veneers

These tend to be the most common option for treatment. They are applied and sculpted during your appointment with the dentist. Composite veneers are generally used to fix smaller cosmetic issues — chipped or cracked teeth, for instance. They can also be used to fix slightly crooked teeth or conceal small gaps between the front teeth. They are substantially cheaper than porcelain veneers and involve a far shorter period of treatment.

The one downside is that the finish is often not as good as with porcelain veneers. They also aren’t as stain resistant. But as long as your dental hygiene is good, they can last a very long time.

Porcelain Veneers

If composite veneers are more economical like Honda vehicles, then porcelain veneers are your Cadillacs in the sense that they are the priciest option. But they also last the longest and have the most transformative effect on your smile. This treatment will take place over multiple appointments from preparation to creation of your veneers in an off-site laboratory.

Besides the higher price tag and the longer preparatory work required for porcelain veneers, there are no other downsides.

Instant and Removable Veneers

Instant veneers are somewhere in between porcelain and composite veneers. A pre-made veneer will be applied to your teeth, rather than a custom made one. You can choose from a variety of styles and shades which can be matched to your teeth. This process is more budget-friendly because the veneers aren’t custom made and there are no lab fees involved. Instant veneers are fairly stain resistant. But they’re also not as lasting as porcelain veneers.

Removable (or “snap-on”) veneers are relatively new to the game. They are constructed from a hard-wearing dental resin to form a strong cover which you wear over your existing teeth, giving you the appearance of a perfect smile. You can eat and drink as you normally would, just simply remove and clean them when finished. While this method is certainly the least expensive route, it’s by no means a long-term solution for dental issues.

Veneers are generally good methods of fixing cosmetic properties of teeth.
