Healthy Dental Habits for the Holidays

Brookline Dentures

At CITIDental Brookline, we’d like to remind you that in these festive times, it’s still important for you to look out for your teeth. There’s nothing that can make you more self-conscious than a cavity while you’re flashing your pearly whites for those ugly sweater photos, so we would like to take the chance to give you some tips to successfully getting through the holidays.

Limit Candy and Junk Food

First, we want you to avoid binging on holiday candies. We know how tempting it can be to have seven candy canes while decorating the Christmas tree. Before you know it, you’re buying another economy-sized bag of canes before Thanksgiving weekend is over. Try to limit the chocolate, the popcorn ball, and rice crispy treats. Please enjoy yourself, but just remember to bypass that candy in favor of the veggie tray every once in a while.

Make sure you stay away from hard candy and limit peanut brittle. We know it can be tempting, but these snacks can do a number on your grill. We see a lot of patients coming in with chipped or broken teeth that could have been avoided by incorporating healthier lifestyle habits.

Snack Healthy

Also, it’s a good idea to treat yourself to only one dessert, instead of incessantly snacking on junk all day. That way, you can brush your teeth immediately afterward in order to reduce your risk of tooth decay. There are amazing recipes for healthy snacks that will promote great overall health while avoiding those sugar highs and lows. You’ll feel better, smile more, and be more productive when you’re eating well and taking care of yourself.

Schedule and Keep your Check-up Appointments with CITIDental Brookline

One of the best and most effective ways to take care of your teeth in any season is scheduling your checkups and routine cleanings every six months. That way you’ll be better informed about your habits and how your teeth are maturing over the years.

Stay Prepared

You don’t have to carry an electric toothbrush around (well, of course, do that if it makes sense to you) to keep your teeth clean. In this day and age, more and more tools and products are being developed for people on the go. You can buy disposable tiny toothbrushes at the grocery store that can do a fairly good job cleaning your teeth and the in-between regions of your mouth in between meals. If you aren’t able to get to a bathroom and do the job the right way, pack a few of these little brushes and some floss to properly maintain that million dollar smile.

As always, we hope this blog was helpful. If you have any additional questions or would like to schedule a one on one consultation with CITIDental Brookline, we can show you the habits and techniques to live a life of stellar oral health today.
